Serious Priest Changes Incoming

If you look at a catalog of all the blue posts, priests had a few weeks of the cold shoulder.  We heard nothing, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but sure as hell isn’t reassuring.  A list of class forums they Blizzard staff were posting on were pretty much just: Death Knight, Warrior, Paladin, and Druid.  You know what all those have in common?

T-A-N-K-S!

My personal theory that I stand by is that with the addition of the new class, Blizzard focused first on balancing tanking, and is now working its way down to DPS and healing.

So, we are going to see a lot more changes in the beta (despite the prior comments from Blizzard that priests were one of the more polished classes).

From this post, changes could include:

  • Guardian Spirit – Not on the global cooldown.
  • Holy Nova – Probably will be made less shitty.
  • Blessed Recovery – Made useful?
  • Shadow Affinity – Gain a shadow resistance to dispel?
  • Silence – Might get a glyph

Things that won’t change:

  • Shadow Resilience
  • The charges on Inner Fire
  • Improved Mana Burn
  • Surge of Light
  • Blessed Resilience
  • Shadow Resilience
  • Divine Spirit

The sad part is I don’t think the threat problem with Discipline will be looked at unless more feedback is given (very subtle hint there: if you are in the beta, go try to heal as disc and let Blizzard know is isn’t working!  The threat gain on the tank is still a problem!).  We will be seeing premades and entry-level raiding soon on the beta test realms, so do go try things out and give feedback!

  1. How bad is the rage/mana generation gimping due to shielding? I’d love to see some numbers for threat from a shielded tank vs threat from a non-shielded tank.

Also I thought of a potentially interesting solution. See http://forums.wow-europe.com/thread.html?topicId=5640177935&sid=1 for the discussion. But in summary, make Reflective Shield generate threat for the tank, and maybe have it apply to Divine Aegis too. I’m sure it could be scaled to give shielded tanks roughly the same threat generation as unshielded tanks.
